The Nite Art brand, communications and event

Along with helping clients, the studio is being client and investing energy in product, events, collaboration and ideas designed to create income, awareness and presence as an innovating creative entity.

Initiated by art lover, walker and culture shaper Deb Stahle, Nite Art 2013 is a new event format and platform for Melbourne, opening the doors to discovering art, and inviting everyone to experience the inner workings of Melbourne’s multi-faceted arts scene, with over 30 exhibitions in one night.

Locals and visitors can experience simultaneous gallery openings and an artwalk across 20 well-known, cutting edge, and experiential galleries and artist run spaces in the CBD and North Melbourne. The new contemporary art event will bring people, art and their city together on July 24, with the program running from 6pm-11pm.

Art lovers, collectors and the curious can stroll through four creative precincts in the Melbourne CBD, including Guildford Lane, Upper Bourke Street, Flinders Lane and off the grid in North Melbourne. Visitors have the opportunity to meet the artists, collectors and art enthusiasts in the art spaces they inhabit, and gain an insight into Melbourne’s contemporary art world.

Suggested artwalks will be offered, curated to a theme or medium, allowing the city to be creatively and independently explored. Visitors can recharge at art bars in each precinct.

Nite Art will also feature artist talks, and panel discussions on the joy of collecting art, and offers the opportunity to meet artists, collectors and other enthusiasts. Projections, public art installations and street art will link the journey between galleries.

Nite Art is founded by an influential team in Melbourne’s creative community, united by a shared passion for contemporary art. Founding partners include Deborah Stahle, founder of Artwalk Melbourne; Andrea Nixon of branding and communications consultancy, Nixon Counsel; Andrew Ashton, leading communication and creative specialist, writer and artist behind Work Art Life; and Jason McQuoid, director of new photography gallery, Edmund Pearce. The major sponsor is the City of Melbourne.

The communications developed by the studio are designed to be evocative, simple and intelligent. We have to create a mighty shout with modest means. The above brand is a beginning, communication charged with energy and smarts await.

Work is rolling out over Autumn / Winter 2013.

You can also visit our site here to register interest and understand the site

Thanks again to Deb, Andrea, Jason for your vision and ongoing support, can wait til 24 July 2013

The Pet Grocer – a new retail pet brand

In February 2013 the studio was given the opportunity to re imagine and rethink a new pet retailer.

Over three weeks a new communication story, image making, print, signing and digital collateral was put in place,

The Pet Grocer simply offers customers superior and healthy products for your pet to help aid their life span and well being. The communication story offers an alternative to communicating the world of pets. Instead of falling back upon the over used “cute pet” idea, we tell a story of pets that are as individual as their owners.

The communications are simple, yet full of life. Bold shades of black and white, graphic, raw, natural with hints of gold twisting the tradition of pet branding. Around distinctive images developed by Andrew Ashton, the studio developed the brand mark, print, packaging, web site, signing to store marketing phase – Everything a pet could need. The studio is working with the store as an apparel partner, exploring the new product lines for pet owners too.

The new look was rolled out over in early March 2013.

You can also visit our Tumblr site here to see us silk screening apparel items with Rory Langdon and Rebecca Lorraine.

Gunn & Taylor approached us to assist with developing an end of year promotional campaign – this year we took inspiration from venue, Moon Under Water. Moon Under Water is an essay wrtten by George Orwell for the London Evening Standard in 1946, chronicling the myth of the perfect public house. Gunn & Taylor have employed their special foiling, embossing and die cutting machine.

We dreamed us several iterations of the Moon Under Water, dashed with white foils and a delicate red foil contrasted with silver on toothy uncoated black paper. Another fine ink on paper moment where communication, craft and print know how meets.

Cheers to Mr Gunn and the printing team for another terrific collaboration.

The studio in conjunction with Gunn & Taylor Printers has produced a 32 page publication of photographic selections by Andrew Ashton.

The publication is an introduction to Andrew’s photographic work spanning ten years. Scale, diversity, contrast, and a spareness of graphic elements (accompanying descriptions and typography) was put in place in the design to allow the narrative within the images to prevail.

The notes and related information are stitched to the outside of the piece printed in one colour, allowing the viewer to gain an insight into the images and process. The notes are printed on a light, delicate stock designed for easy removal or left in place by the piece’s owner.

The 24 page image section is printed in 4 colour process on an oversize A3 format. We specified an uncoated workhorse offset paper (FSC accredited) with a self covered finish to allow the piece to be rolled, stowed and presented again on a generous flat surface.
